Mickey Lolich posted his 21st victory of the season as the Tigers defeated the Twins, 6-2. Al Kaline hit a two-run homer for the Tigers in the first inning before the Twins picked up their pair on a single by Rod Carew and circuit clout by Harmon Killebrew in the third.

Bill Freehan broke the tie with a two-run double in the sixth. Lolich, who had gone hitless in 38 times at bat, rapped a double to drive a run across in the seventh and Norm Cash walked with the bases loaded for the final tally in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
