The Red Sox, after losing 11 straight times to the Royals, finally won the last meeting between the two clubs, 7-0. Ray Culp posted the shutout on a six-hitter. The Red Sox, after picking up a run in the first inning on two walks and a single by Doug Griffin, erupted for four in the fifth, three scoring on a homer by Reggie Smith. Rico Petrocelli and Joe Lahoud hit successive triples and Mike Fiore doubled for the last two tallies in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
