The Braves, after scoring their early runs on two homers, bunched three singles off Fergie Jenkins for a run in the ninth inning to beat the Cubs. 4-3. Darrell Evans homered for the Braves in the second inning and, after Johnny Callison knocked in two runs for the Cubs with a double in their half of the second, Earl Williams hit for the circuit with a man on base in the sixth to put the Braves in front again.

The Cubs tied the score in the eighth on a triple by Joe Pepitone and single by Brock Davis. Williams opened the Braves' ninth with a single and was forced by Mike Lum. After Evans struck out, Sonny Jackson beat out an infield hit and Marty Perez singled to produce the winning run. [The Sporting News]
