Bart Johnson, pitching in relief for the White Sox, lost his control in the seventh and passed four batters to force in one run. Facing Steve Kealey in relief, Jim Northrup grounded to Mike Andrews for a forceout at the plate, but when catcher Tom Egan threw to first base in an attempted double play, Andrews dropped the ball as Gates Brown streaked home with the deciding run.
