. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After Tom Seaver posted a 9-2 victory in the first game, the Mets completed the sweep of a doubleheader with the Dodgers when Cleon Jones homered in the ninth inning to win the second game, 2-1. The Mets clinched the opener in the first inning when they scored six runs at the expense of Claude Osteen, who failed to retire any of six batters. Donn Clendenon drove in two runs with a single in the merry-go-round and added two more RBIs with a homer in the second.

In the nightcap, the Dodgers were first to score, counting in the eighth inning on a pinch-single by Tom Haller, but the Mets came back with the tying run on a pinch-single by Tommie Agee. With two out in the ninth, Jones worked the count to 3-and-1 on Jim Brewer before smashing his homer. [The Sporting News]
