Three homers, including a grand slam by Ray Fosse, enabled the Indians to outslug the Twins, 9-8. John Lowenstein homered for the Indians' first two runs in the second inning. Fosse's jackpot wallop followed in the third.

The Twins, who had two homers by Rich Reese and one by Tony Oliva, were leading, 8-6, before Vada Pinson came to the plate and hit for the circuit with two men on base in the sixth. As a result, Mark Ballinger, rookie from Jacksonville (Dixie Association), who pitched hitless ball in the last four innings for the Indians, was able to pick up his first major league victory.
