An unearned run in the eighth inning enabled the Royals to defeat the Yankees, 4-3. Ron Blomberg provided the Yankees' entire attack, driving in all their runs with a pair of homers.

After Blomberg's second smash put the Yankees ahead, 3-2, in the sixth inning, the Royals tied the score in their half on a triple by Lou Piniella and single by Bob Oliver. Piniella beat out an infield hit to Jerry Kenney in the eighth, raced to third on his wild throw and scored the winning run on a single by Oliver. [The Sporting News]
