Rick Wise smashed two homers, including the winning grand slam, to go along with his pitching as the Phillies captured the second game of a twi-night doubleheader, 7-3, after the Giants won the first game, 5-2. In the opener, Al Gallagher drove in two of the Giants' runs with a pair of singles and Willie Mays hit a homer. Mays also turned in a sensational catch of a drive by Ron Stone with Terry Harmon and Woodie Fryman on base in the third inning. Harmon scored after the catch, but Fryman was doubled up.

In the nightcap, homers by Byron Browne and Wise helped the Phillies to a 3-3 tie before the Phillies' pitcher shattered the deadlock in the seventh. Browne and Roger Freed drew passes from Don Carrithers to open the stanza. Don McMahon, in relief, struck out Bobby Pfeil and then walked Tim McCarver to set the stage for Wise's slam.
