A pass to Ted Sizemore with the bases loaded and two out in the 11th inning handed the Cardinals a 4-3 victory over the Reds. Five singles gave the Reds their runs in the first inning, but Sizemore hit a double and single to figure in two tallies for the Cardinals before Lou Brock tied the score with a homer in the ninth.

In the 11th, with one out, Luis Melendez and Dal Maxvill singled, knocking out Wayne Granger. Joe Gibbon walked Ted Kubiak to load the bases and got Brock on a short liner to left field before yielding the mound to Clay Carroll, who passed Sizemore on a 3-and-2 pitch. [The Sporting News]
