. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Lee May drove in a run with a single in the first inning and then homered in the eighth to give the Reds a 2-1 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, but the Padres came back to win the second game, 4-3, with the aid of a homer and double by Cito Gaston, who drove in three runs.

Gaston hit his round-tripper after a single by Enzo Hernandez in the first inning. The Reds went ahead with three runs in the third, but the Padres tied the score when Nate Colbert doubled and Ollie Brown singled in the fifth. Don Mason singled in the eighth and counted the winning run on Gaston's double, enabling Clay Kirby to defeat the Reds for the sixth straight time since May 25, 1970. [The Sporting News]
