Home runs helped the Tigers win the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 6-1, just as they assisted the Indians in taking the second game, 6-3. In the opener, Norm Cash and Dick McAuliffe hit round-trippers for the Tigers. McAuliffe connected in the fifth inning. After one out, Gates Brown singled and Cash also hit for the circuit. Cash drove in two more runs with a single in the seventh. A homer by Roy Foster saved the Indians from being shut out. In the nightcap, the Indians had a two-run homer by Graig Nettles in the third inning and three-run smash by Chris Chambliss in the fourth. [The Sporting News] |
