The Royals beat the Brewers, 6-4, to wind up August with 18 victories against 12 defeats, the best record for any month in their brief history. After the Brewers took a 4-3 lead with three runs in the sixth inning, Joe Keough homered to tie the score in the seventh.

Gail Hopkins then walked, Lou Piniella singled and Paul Schaal hit a sacrifice fly to send the Royals ahead. Lance Clemons, the fourth of five pitchers used by the Royals in the game, sewed up the victory by hitting his first major league homer in the eighth inning. [The Sporting News]
