Three unearned runs provided the Athletics with their margin in a 4-1 victory over the Angels. After the Angels scored in the first inning on a safe bunt by Mickey Rivers, a stolen base and single by Jim Spencer, an error by Jim Fregosi enabled the A's to tie the score in their half.

The deadlock persisted until the eighth when Joe Rudi singled and counted on a double by Reggie Jackson. Two tainted tallies followed to clinch the verdict on an error by Spencer and triple by Rick Monday. [The Sporting News]
