Breaking up a scoreless duel, the White Sox counted twice in the 11th inning to defeat the Twins, 2-0. Wilbur Wood pitched the first nine innings for the White Sox and Bert Blyleven hurled the first 10 for the Twins.

In the 11th, with Bob Gebhard on the mound, Pat Kelly and Jay Johnstone hit singles for the White Sox and Rich McKinney sacrificed. After an intentional pass to Bill Melton, Jim Strickland relieved Gebhard.
