Ernie McAnally, who helped himself with a three-run homer, received credit for his fifth straight victory, tying the Montreal club record, when the Expos defeated the Cubs, 9-5. The Expos sent 10 men to bat and scored six runs on only two hits in the sixth inning.

Ron Woods walked, Rusty Staub was hit by a pitch and, after a sacrifice by Bob Bailey, Gary Sutherland was handed an intentional pass to load the bases. John Bateman popped up, but John Boccabella doubled to drive in three runs. The Cubs then walked Bobby Wine purposely to get at McAnally, who upset the strategy with his first major league homer.
