The Mets took advantage of an error by Larry Hisle and scored two unearned runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Phillies, 3-1. Hisle, playing his first game since being recalled from Eugene (Pacific Coast), dropped a fly by Bud Harrelson in left field.

Wayne Garrett followed with an infield hit. After the runners moved up on a wild pitch by Rick Wise, Harrelson scored on a single by Cleon Jones to break a 1-1 tie and Garrett came home on a grounder by Ed Kranepool, beating the throw to the plate. [The Sporting News]
