. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Yankees piled up 11 runs in the first two innings and breezed to an 11-1 victory over the Senators. Jim Shellenback, who had beaten the Yankees the last three previous times he had faced them, was kayoed in the first without retiring a batter. Horace Clarke walked, Thurman Munson and Bobby Murcer singled and Roy White walked before Shellenback departed. A pair of passed balls and a wild pitch by Casey Cox followed as the Yankees took a 4-0 lead.

The Yankees turned the game into a rout with seven runs in the second. Singles by Clarke, Munson, Murcer and White produced two runs before Felipe Alou homered with two men on base. Clarke, coming up later for his second time at bat in the stanza, doubled off Mike Thompson to add two more runs. [The Sporting News]
