One of the Pirates' batting heroes, Rennie Stennett turned into the goat with an error that helped the Expos scored three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Eastern division leaders, 6-4. Stennett and Roberto Clemente each had four hits for the Pirates, who held a 4-3 lead going into the ninth.

Bob Bailey and Gary Sutherland opened the Expos' rally with singles. Stennett then fumbled a grounder by John Bateman as Bailey scored. With one out, Ron Brand walked to load the bases. When Jim Fairey forced Brand, Sutherland crossed the plate to send the Expos ahead. Boots Day followed with a single to produce an insurance run. [The Sporting News]
