The Mets scored three runs before a batter was retired in the first inning and went on from there to defeat the Phillies, 7-1. Bud Harrelson opened the game with a safe bunt, Tim Foli singled, Cleon Jones drove them home with a double and then counted himself on a single by Donn Clendenon.

Duffy Dyer and Tommie Agee hit homers to add later runs to the Mets' count. Ray Sadecki was tagged for 10 hits by the Phillies, but the veteran lefthander yielded a run only in the third on triples by Larry Bowa and Mike Anderson. [The Sporting News]
