Jim Palmer joined teammates Mike Cuellar, Dave McNally and Pat Dobson in the 17-victory class when the Orioles defeated the Senators, 6-2. Palmer turned in his 17th complete game of the season, scattering nine hits including a homer by Del Unser.

Boog Powell and Davey Johnson drove in two runs apiece for the Orioles. Johnson homered for one run in the fifth inning to help pin Denny McLain with his 18th defeat of the season. [The Sporting News]
