Cesar Gutierrez, the first pinch-hitter, singled and was forced by Aurelio Rodriguez, who scored on a triple by Tony Taylor. After Norm Cash singled to drive in Taylor, the Tigers used five pinch-hitters in a row. Gates Brown lined out, but Jim Northrup doubled to produce two runs.
