Sandy Valdespino, who had been on a batting streak since his recall from Omaha (American Association), drove in four runs to lead the Royals to a 6-1 victory over the White Sox. Valdespino homered with two men on base in the third inning, singled another run across in the sixth and added a double in the eighth, giving him 14 hits in 29 times at bat. Paul Splittorff held the White Sox to four hits but lost his shutout bid when Bill Melton homered in the fourth. [The Sporting News]
