Although J.R. Richard was forced out of the game by a blister on his pitching hand in the sixth inning, the rookie righthander received credit for his second straight major league victory when the Astros defeated the Reds, 5-2. Richard gave up a homer by Pete Rose in the first inning and one other hit before departing. John Mayberry smashed two homers and drove in three runs for the Astros. [The Sporting News]
