Nelson Briles turned in his second straight complete game and pitched the Pirates to a 4-0 victory over the Expos. Bob Robertson led the Pirates at bat with three hits, driving in two runs and scoring one. A double by Rennie Stennett and single by Robertson produced the initial tally in the first inning.

Robertson singled in the fourth, stopped at second on a single by Al Oliver and scored on two wild pitches by Steve Renko. The Pirates' last two runs counted in the eighth on a single by Dave Cash, sacrifice by Richie Hebner, pass to Roberto Clemente, single by Robertson and sacrifice fly by Oliver.
