Clyde Wright, who pitched hitless ball for the first six innings, was the winner in a duel with Dick Drago when the Angels defeated the Royals, 2-1. The Angels bunched three singles for a run in the fourth and added the deciding tally in the fifth when Ken Berry doubled, took third on an infield hit by Jeff Torborg and scored as Wright grounded into a double play.

Paul Schaal doubled in the seventh for the Royals' first hit off Wright and scored their run on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Lou Piniella. [The Sporting News]
