Three homers in support of Fred Norman's pitching carried the Padres to a 4-1 victory over the Dodgers, who missed an opportunity to move into a tie with the Giants for the West division lead. An infield hit by Leron Lee and double by Larry Stahl produced a run for the Padres in the second inning.

The Dodgers pulled even with singles by Doyle Alexander and Willie Davis around a sacrifice in the fifth, but the Padres then went into their slugging act with homers by Nate Colbert in the sixth, Stahl in the seventh and Johnny Jeter in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
