. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Ron Perranoski, obtained from the Twins July 30, received credit for his first save in a Detroit uniform when the Tigers defeated the Senators, 3-1. Perranoski replaced Les Cain with two men on base and none out in the seventh inning, put down a threat and yielded only one hit the rest of the way.

After Jeff Burroughs homered for the Senators in the second, the Tigers went ahead to stay with two runs in the fifth on a single by Cain, double by Dick McAuliffe, sacrifice fly by Aurelio Rodriguez and single by Norm Cash. [The Sporting News]
