Vida Blue, who had not been a winner since August 29, was rapped for five runs in five innings, but the Athletics took their young lefthander off the hook and defeated the Brewers, 6-5, on a run-scoring single by pinch-hitter Tommy Davis in the 11th. Darrell Porter hit a three-run homer off Blue in the second and Andy Kosco added a solo swat off the southpaw in the fifth.

The A's, who had scored twice in the third, narrowed their deficit with back-to-back homers by Reggie Jackson and Sal Bando in the sixth and tied the score with two walks and a single by Mike Hegan in the eighth.
