Getting shutout pitching from Al Downing and Don Sutton, the Dodgers snapped their four game losing streak and swept over the Braves in a doubleheader, 12-0 and 4-0. In the lidlifter, the Dodgers rolled up their season high of 19 hits, including a homer, double and two singles by Willie Davis, who drove in three runs. Downing held the Braves to three hits.

Sutton pitched a six-hitter in the nightcap and had the support of a homer by batterymate Duke Sims. The victories moved the Dodgers within 1½ games of the Giants in the West division race. [The Sporting News]
