Fergie Jenkins, who had made three unsuccessful tries for his 22nd victory, finally achieved it with the help of his own bat as the Cubs defeated the Phillies, 6-3. With the score tied, 3-3, Jenkins doubled in the ninth inning, Cleo James beat out a bunt and Paul Popovich singled, scoring Jenkins.
