Monty Montgomery, rookie from Elmira (Eastern), gained his second major league victory as the Royals won the nightcap of a doubleheader, 5-2, after losing the opener to the Twins, 6-3. The Twins sent Blyleven on his way to triumph in the first game when they scored four runs in the first inning on a triple by Leo Cardenas with the bases loaded and single by Rick Renick, who started his first game since undergoing knee surgery in mid-May. Cesar Tovar singled with the sacks filled in the third to add the Twins' other two tallies.
