Burt Hooton outpitched Tom Seaver and gained his second major league victory when the Cubs defeated the Mets, 3-0. Hooton, who also beat the Mets for his first victory, 3-2, September 15, allowed only two singles.

Seaver gave up three hits, but they included a homer by Ron Santo after a walk to Pat Bourque in the second inning. The other run counted in the third when Cleo James was hit by a pitch, Paul Popovich singled and Billy Williams lofted a sacrifice fly. [The Sporting News]
