A three-run outburst by the Cubs in the ninth inning enabled Fergie Jenkins to defeat the Expos, 5-3, for his 24th victory. Gene Hiser walked in the ninth and scored on singles by Billy Williams and Ron Santo to break a 2-2 tie. Jim Hickman then doubled, dirving in two runs, to provide the winning margin.
