After Jim Breazeale led off the seventh inning with the first homer of his major league career, the Braves added five unearned runs on three errors to defeat the Reds, 6-2. Following Breazeale's homer, Dusty Baker was safe on an error by Jimmy Stewart and Tony LaRussa and Bob Didier singled to load the bases. Stewart drew his second error, booting a grounder by Gil Garrido, as two runs scored. Another run counted on a forceout by Leo Foster. Oscar Brown doubled to drive in the fifth run of the frame and the final marker counted when Lee May erred on a grounder by Darrell Evans. Tom House was the beneficiary and gained his first major league victory. [The Sporting News] |
