. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Bill Melton became the first home-run champion in the history of the White Sox, hitting his 33rd of the season, to mark a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. Melton finished one homer ahead of Reggie Jackson of the Athletics and Norm Cash of the Tigers.

Tony Muser tripled and scored on a single by Chuck Brinkman in the second inning before Melton provided the deciding run with his smash in the third. The White Sox used five pitchers. After the Brewers scored in the ninth on a single by Jose Cardenal, two errors and a pass to Darrell Porter with one out, Stan Perzanowski saved the game by getting Tom Matchick to hit into a forceout at the plate and Roberto Pena lined out.
