. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Senators were deprived of a possible 7-5 victory in their last appearance in Washington when unruly fans, in hunt of souvenirs, swarmed onto the field with two out in the ninth inning, forcing the umpires to forfeit the game to the Yankees, 9-0. Homers by Rusty Torres, Bobby Murcer and Roy White paced the Yankees to a 5-1 lead before Frank Howard hit for the circuit to spark a four-run rally by the Senators in the sixth.

Dave Nelson and Tom Ragland were safe on errors in the eighth and Tommy McCraw broke the tie with a single, scoring Nelson. Elliott Maddox followed with a sacrifice fly to allow Ragland to cross the plate. All individual performances in the game went into the official records, except that no pitcher was credited with the victory or charged with the defeat. [The Sporting News]
