The Expos scored two runs on only one hit in the ninth inning to defeat the Cardinals, 3-2. Mike Jorgensen walked to start the stanza and stopped at third on a double by Ron Fairly. Rick Wise, who drew the defeat in his first start for the Cardinals, was lifted in favor of Don Shaw.

Ken Singleton hit a slow roller to Dal Maxvill and was thrown out as Jorgensen scored the tying run. After passing Boots Day, Shaw gave way to Moe Drabowsky. Ron Woods batted for Mike Marshall and tapped to Drabowsky, whose throw to first base hit Woods on the left elbow and bounced away, pinch-runner Clyde Mashore scoring. [The Sporting News]
