An error by Lenny Randle in the ninth inning enabled Carlos May to score the run that gave the White Sox a 2-1 victory over the Rangers. May walked to open the stanza. After a sacrifice and intentional pass to Mike Andrews, Tom Egan stroked a short single to center fielder Joe Lovitto, who fired the ball home, forcing May to hold up at third. Catcher Hal King, noting that Andrews had rounded second, pegged to Randle, who failed to handle the throw and May raced home on the error.
