Two unearned runs in the seventh inning enabled the Mets to defeat the Padres, 2-1, with Buzz Capra receiving credit for his first major league victory. Nate Colbert homered for the Padres in the second. In the seventh, after singles by Tommie Agee and Rusty Staub, Cleon Jones fouled out and Jim Fregosi flied out. Steve Arlin picked Agee off second, but in the rundown Derrel Thomas threw wildly to third, allowing Agee to score. Staub reached third and also crossed the plate when Larry Stahl dropped a short fly by Ed Kranepool. [The Sporting News] |
