Ted Uhlaender drove in a run with his first N. L. hit to help the Reds to a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. With the score tied, 3-3, Joe Morgan singled to lead off the ninth inning and stole second. Following an intentional pass to Bobby Tolan, Morgan and Tolan worked a double steal. After Johnny Bench popped up, the Pirates decided to pass Tony Perez, loading the bases.

Uhlaender then singled, driving in the tie-breaking run, and Denis Menke hit a sacrifice fly to plate what proved to be the winning tally. The Pirates scored once in their half of the ninth on a double by Al Oliver and a pair of infield outs. [The Sporting News]
