. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Reds rallied for two runs in the ninth inning with the aid of an error by Don Kessinger and a mental boner by Glenn Beckert to defeat the Cubs, 3-2. Johnny Bench and Tony Perez led off with singles. When Ted Uhlaender bunted, Kessinger raced over to cover third but failed to hold the throw by Dan McGinn and Cesar Geronimo, running for Bench, scored the tying run.

Perez, who reached third, held up there when Denis Menke, as the next batter, forced Uhlaender. Dave Concepcion then grounded to Glenn Beckert, who took his eye off Perez and threw to first. Perez broke for home and beat Jim Hickman's throw from first to score the winning run. [The Sporting News]
