The Athletics scored two runs in the first inning on a bases-loaded single by Dave Duncan and made those tallies stand up for a 2-1 victory over the Brewers. Duncan delivered his hit after a walk to Joe Rudi, single by Reggie Jackson, a passed ball and an intentional pass to Mike Epstein. Dave May accounted for the Brewers' run with a homer in the sixth. Bob Heise and Joe Lahoud of the Brewers collided going after a short fly in the eighth and both had to leave the game for repairs. Catfish Hunter was the A's winner with the help of Rollie Fingers, who ended a Milwaukee threat in the ninth. [The Sporting News] |
