Tom Seaver was tagged for three homers and was lifted after 6 2/3 innings but received credit for his fourth straight victory when the Mets defeated the Giants, 7-4. Bud Harrelson and Cleon Jones each drove in two runs for the Mets, one of Harrelson's RBIs coming on the third homer of his eight years in a New York uniform. The Giants' homers, accounting for all their runs, were hit by Dave Rader, Chris Speier and Ken Henderson. Rader's blow in the third inning was the first of the young catcher's major league career.
