All three runs in the game were unearned when the Indians defeated the Rangers, 2-1, in a duel between Milt Wilcox and Pete Broberg. The Indians' first run, in the second inning, resulted from an error by Dave Nelson. The Rangers scored on a wild throw by Ray Fosse in the third.

Graig Nettles singled for the Indians in the sixth and when Ted Kubiak threw wide of second on a grounder by Tommy McCraw, both runners were safe. Fosse grounded up the middle to Lenny Randle, who had no play at first but fired the ball home. Dick Billings, however, dropped the throw and Nettles scored the deciding run on the error.
