The Mets, after building up a 4-1 lead, exploded for four more runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Giants, 8-5. Tommie Agee, who hit two doubles and a single, figured in the scoring of three of the Mets' first four runs.

In the eighth, Jim Fregosi tripled and counted on a double by Ed Kranepool. After advancing to third while Jerry Grote was being retired, Kranepool crossed the plate on a bunt single by Jon Matlack. With two out, Ted Martinez tripled to score Matlack and came home himself on a throwing error by Tito Fuentes. [The Sporting News]
