The Red Sox, who had failed to hit a homer previously this season, finally broke their drouth with a circuit clout by Rico Petrocelli in the sixth inning, but the blow proved meaningless in a 5-2 loss to the Twins. Steve Braun hit a homer with a man on base for the Twins in the fourth and another run followed in the fifth on doubles by Cesar Tovar and Rod Carew.
