. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Padres, who had lost to Tom Seaver 10 straight times over his career, finally ended the mastery of the ace righthander by defeating the Mets, 6-2. Ed Kranepool accounted for the Mets' runs with a homer, but Nate Colbert was more potent for the Padres against Seaver, driving in two runs with a double in the sixth inning and two more with a homer in the eighth.

As a result, Seaver was handed his first loss of the season and was turned back in a bid for the 100th victory of his career with the Mets. [The Sporting News]
