A pinch-single by Bob Burda with two out in the eighth inning scored Duane Josephson from second base and capped a comeback by the Red Sox in a 4-3 victory over the Angels. A homer by Bob Oliver helped the Angels take a 3-0 lead.

The Red Sox rallied to tie the score in the sixth. Carl Yastrzemski was injured in a home-plate collision with catcher Art Kusyner, suffering strained ligaments in his right knee. In the eighth, Josephson singled for his third hit of the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice before Burda batted for Bill Lee and delivered his first hit in a Red Sox uniform.
