Alter six innings of scoreless dueling between Joe Coleman and Wilbur Wood, the Tigers broke away to defeat the White Sox, 5-2. The Tigers tagged Wood for two runs in the seventh on a single by Norm Cash, double by Mickey Stanley, single by Ed Brinkman and squeeze bunt by Coleman.

As a result, Wood was the loser, although the Tigers added their other runs at the expense of White Sox relievers. Coleman also failed to finish, but received credit for the victory. [The Sporting News]
