Sam McDowell gained his fifth straight victory without a defeat when the Giants erupted for six runs in the eighth inning to beat the Expos, 7-3. Garry Maddox batted in the Giants' first run with a single in the seventh and then knocked in two more with a bases-loaded single in the eighth. As compared with McDowell's five victories, the rest of the Giants' staff had won a total of only three games. [The Sporting News]
